Celebrating the final game in Poland

On Sunday, September 1, Wojkowice hosted the fourth and final game of this year’s ‘Game with Mum & Dad’ series in Poland, marking a heartwarming conclusion to an initiative that has brought families closer together through the power of playing together. This special event, hosted at the largest prison unit in the Krakow district, saw the highest turnout yet, with 28 children and 14 parents coming together for a day filled with joy, laughter, football and complicity between them.

The event was a self-evident togetherness, offering a unique opportunity for parents and children to bond on the football field. The day was filled with not just sport, but also a variety of treats that delighted everyone in attendance. From popcorn, cotton candy, nachos and hot dogs, to the homemade pea soup prepared by the parents, the event was truly a festival of flavors with a family atmosphere.

After the football match, the field transformed into a lively picnic area, where families continued to enjoy each other’s company. The smiles on the children’s faces were further brightened by the gifts they received—backpacks, cups and sweets—courtesy of the Śląski Związek Piłki Nożnej association.

The event saw the participation of several distinguished guests, including Józef Grz Waba, President of the Football Subdistrict in Sosnowiec, Jerzy Pielok, a former Polish football player in the Zagłębie Sosnowiec team and three-time vice-champion of Poland, and Janusz Koterwa, a former Polish footballer.

Game with Mum & Dad is a tool used to strengthen, enhance and maintain the bond between children and their imprisoned parents – this last game stands as a testament of the power of playing together in bridging gaps and fostering familial connections. All the events organised by Probacja not only showcased the joy and the need of playing football or any other game, but also highlighted the community’s dedication to creating meaningful experiences for families impacted by imprisonment. As the series draws to a close in Poland, it leaves behind a legacy of unity and joy, reminding us of the profound impact such initiatives can have on strenghtening family bonds.
