The 14th edition of the World Prison Population List published by World Prison Brief on 1st May 2024 gives details on the number of prisoners held in 223 prison systems in independent countries and dependent territories.

The report allows to make an estimate of the world prison population ,which is around 11 million people.
This means around 22,5 million children all over the world have one or both parents in prison.
In Europe, the figures show that the total imprisoned population is 1.496.000, which means that children with an imprisoned parent are approximately 2,7 million.
